When choosing a pediatric practice for your children, it is important that you have given serious consideration to the fit between the practice philosophies and your own.
Excellent care happens when the physicians and office staff are aligned with your family priorities and philosophies regarding medical care. Only then can shared decision making be based on mutual respect.
Please read the following checklist carefully to be sure South Loop Pediatrics is the appropriate medical home for your children.
Vaccination saves lives! Our clinic follows the schedule outlined by the CDC and the American Academy of Pediatrics. We vaccinate our own children on schedule, and believe our patients should be vaccinated on schedule as well. There is no evidence-based data that supports delayed, or modified vaccination schedules. There are no evidence-based studies that link vaccinations to developmental delays, Autism, or other disorders in children. Dr. Brown and the staff are happy to discuss with you all your concerns and questions about timely childhood vaccination and prevention of childhood disease; however in the interest of protecting all the families of our practice, WE DO NOT accept non-vaccinating families to our practice.
Antibiotic resistance is real! We work hard to not overuse antibiotics. We educate families on appropriate use of antibiotics, and follow evidence-based guidelines. We do not routinely call in antibiotics over the phone, as we do not believe that is good medicine. When we believe antibiotics are appropriate treatment, we will be happy to answer your questions.
We work hard to provide comprehensive medical care and serve as your community based medical home. In order to accomplish this, we expect that you contact our office FIRST before seeking specialty care, or heading to an Urgent Care/Emergency room.
Our practice prides itself on efficiency through use of technology. You will be expected to contact us through our patient portal and effectively use automated reminders and patient engagement enabled via technology.
We make every effort to meet the needs of your busy family and our patients. Please familiarize yourself with our office hours to see if they work for your family.
We have a physician on call 24hrs/7days a week. You may reach Dr. Brown, or the covering on call pediatrician by calling our main number. We expect that unless it is a true medical emergency and requires 911, that you will call the on-call physician to discuss recommendations prior to heading to the Emergency Department or Urgent Care. At times, arrangements can be made to see patients in our office outside of office operation hours if they should not wait to be seen until Monday.
As your community based medical home we expect that you will contact our office to discuss care plans before scheduling an appointment with a specialist. We want to be involved in either providing care in our office where appropriate, or referring you to the most appropriate specialist and helping coordinate your care. Whenever you do see a specialist, we ask that you request a report be sent directly to our office so we can coordinate all of your care.
Please make sure we take your specific insurance plan. If there are any questions, call our office and/or check with your specific insurance company.
Billing and Fees
It is up to you to understand how your insurance works including deductibles and co-insurance and to provide up-to-date insurance information at every visit. Our fees (including missed appointment fees and form fees) can be found in the patient booklet with our payment policy.
Please call our office to make an appointment and tell the nursing staff all of your concerns so that they can allow the appropriate length of time. Same day urgent care visits are often available. Well visit appointments are opened for scheduling 3 months in advance.
Timeliness/NO SHOW policy
Our practice makes every effort to run on time with appointments, as we believe everyone’s time is equally valuable. We ask that you make every effort to present to the office at your scheduled appointment time and call us if you are running behind. If you are 15 minutes or more late for your appointment without notification, your appointment will be rescheduled. Same day cancelations on Wednesday evenings and Saturdays will be marked as a NO SHOW. After 3 or more consecutive NO SHOWs we do reserve the right to send a dismissal letter from our practice.
Forms/ Medical Records
We ask that any forms that need to be completed by Dr. Brown be brought at the time of your visit. If they are not, they should be submitted to the office via our HIPPA compliant portal messaging, and they will be completed and returned to you via portal within 1 week. Any request for release of medical records requires a signed medical release form submitted by parent ( or patient if 18 and older). A verbal request does not suffice as a formal request for release of medical records. Medical records will be released to requested party within a week of receipt of signed medical release form.
